FAQ

How many Pandadoodles are there?

We have successfully cross-bred 16 giant panda hybrids (pandadoodles) from litters in 2018, 2020, and 2021. Ten are with us at our research facility in Chengdu, two are in the United States and two are in France. Two from our first breeding in 2018 did not survive. We plan an additional litter in 2023.

How do pandadoodles help save the giant pandas?

Breeding giant pandas in captivity has been critical to their survival but has proven very difficult. Our pandadoodle research program has contributed breakthroughs in panda breeding, particularly in techniques for increased litter size and newborn wellness.

Can I donate?

We are fortunate to be well funded and do not accept donations. Please do whatever you can to appreciate pandadoodles and help save the giant pandas.

What do pandadoodles eat?

Primarily bamboo but they will accept other treats to please their handlers.

Can I visit?

Yes! We welcome visitors to our Chengdu facility and laboratory, research obligations permitting. We expect to resume facilitated interactions between visitors and pandadoodles when Sars-Cov-2 restrictions are lifted.

Other questions? Please ask and we will post answers. Saving the pandas is our mission.
